Waiting on God's Job

After 5 months of waiting, my husband started working at his full time job with stellar medical benefits on Dec. 13th! Prior to our move to North Carolina he began filling out applications in the area. By July he flew to NC for two weeks hoping to have some interviews. He came home with nothing. Not one interview. His only job lead was given to someone else. Our hope was to leave Kansas with a job waiting for him in NC so there wouldn’t be much lag time between paychecks. That simply didn’t happen. Believing that going to seminary in North Carolina was what God wanted for our family, we followed through on our moving plans.

The Joy of Cooking???

Learning to enjoy cooking has been a slow process for me. When I was a kid both of my parents worked so I grew up fixing dinner after school before they came home. My Mom taught me fast, economical recipes that took very little skill. We had a big, busy family and had to fix enough to fill everyone up without breaking the budget. This information proved very valuable to me during our first years of marriage and also the more penny pinching times while Moriah’s medical care was so intense. Typically, I found that recipes intimidated me if they involved too many ingredients or took too much time.

Giving Thanks

In recent years we have begun to say what we are thankful for as we sit around the food laden table on Thanksgiving. It’s a neat tradition and a great reminder of how incredibly blessed we are. It’s so easy to go through each day and take for granted everyone and everything we have in our lives. So here are a few things I’m thankful for. Be glad you’re reading this now and not hearing it over dinner, or your food would get cold!

What Would Jesus Tip?

Travis and I had an interesting interaction this week. After realizing it had been 14 weeks since having our hair cut, we decided it was time to venture out and use the Great Clips coupons we had received in the mail. We arrived there a little after 10am to find two stylists busy with two adorable little boys, and no one else waiting in line. The boys finished up, got their suckers, and we were next.

Hugs from God - Daily Blessings from my Heavenly Father

We’ve been in North Carolina nine weeks now! WOW!

Most people we’re getting to know ask if we are “settled in” yet. I’ve thought a lot about that question, especially since I’ve lived my entire life up to this point in Kansas. Nine weeks is a short amount of time compared to my years “back home”. But I do think we are adapting-something our family has learned a little bit about with all Moriah‘s medical challenges. After adapting to four months of living in a hospital, I’m thinking I’ll need at least that long to “settle in” to life in North Carolina.

God's Word, A Comfort in Trials (2.0)

Earlier this year I spent 4 months in a children’s hospital with our daughter. While there we received tons of cards and care packages from our family and our church family. Our “card wall” was a wonderful testimony of the love we share in Christ to all who entered our room.

Cleaning House

We are SO blessed to rent our little town home. The location is close to schools and everything we were used to having in Kansas. It’s bigger than the place we came from and has more than one powder room! Utilities are reasonable, someone else mows the grass and tends the landscaping, and our neighbors seem sweet. We were told that many people wanted to rent this place and we are sure God kept it just for us through connections with the seminary and church.

Cutting Through Life

Surfing through the stations one Saturday afternoon I came across the lumberjack competitions being televised on ESPN. Like the strongest man competitions I had to stop and watch.

Music and Memories

I was reminded Sunday in worship that I attach memories to music. I can hear a song and instantly be transported back to the time, place, and people connected with that song.

Can I sum up 6 weeks in one page??

Today our family has been in North Carolina 6 weeks. A LOT has happened. Lots of emotions, lots of things to get used to, lots of things to give God thanks for. I’ll attempt a brief summary! (Those of you who know me feel free to laugh at this point!)

Texas Cholem and Pursuing Christ

Sooner or later the question is asked by a majority of those who find themselves still awake at 2:00 AM. A fresh pot of coffee in the corner of the kitchen, a list of Hebrew nouns and verbs to memorize and a 1000 pages of Biblical, Systematic, Pastoral and any other theology needing to be read in a “that’s not right” amount of time. What is the question you ask? It is the question that should be asked sooner than later. The question that, when answered, will either fill your sails to complete your voyage or cause you to abandon all hope and turn back from where you came. It is the question – everyone now – “Why am I here doing this?”
